ABOUT

What is the Tokyo Financial Award?

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG), in collaboration with the national government, private sector, and others, is advancing initiatives to revitalize the financial sector in order to win back Tokyo’s position as the top global financial city in Asia.

As one project in the “Global Financial City: Tokyo” Vision, the TMG is hosting the “Tokyo Financial Award.” Since 2018, the TMG has been granting a prize to financial institutions who provide and develop innovative products and services that meet Tokyo citizens’ needs and challenges, as well as financial institutions who work to promote ESG investments.

1. Financial Innovation Category

Residents and corporations in Tokyo are invited to submit any dissatisfaction or requests they have regarding the financial services in Tokyo. the TMG will choose the theme to be resolved from these applications, and ask domestic and foreign financial companies offering relevant solutions to apply for.

2. ESG Investment* Category

Residents and corporations in Tokyo are invited to submit any requests or comments they have regarding ESG investment. the TMG is looking for domestic and foreign financial companies that are active in promoting ESG investment and companies that undertake SDGs practice in the business.

In FY2023, the most outstanding businesses out of the applicants in each category will be selected and awarded at the Award Ceremony.

*ESG investment:

※Environment, Social, and Governance. ESG investment is a general term describing when an institutional investor, etc., determines whether to invest in a company, it considers ESG-related information in addition to financial data.

As one of the initiatives of the “Global Financial City: Tokyo” Vision, the "Tokyo Financial Award" aims to enhance the presence of Tokyo as a global financial city, thereby revitalizing the financial sector and improving convenience for the residents of Tokyo.

By inviting, supporting, and awarding businesses from Japan and abroad that provide solutions to the needs and challenges facing Tokyo residents in their daily lives, we can expect to attract talented financial professionals and companies from around the world to Tokyo, accelerating the influx of human resources and the attraction of foreign companies.

Revitalizing the financial sector

The financial sector can be revitalized through promoting exchanges such as business matching between domestic and foreign businesses that provide solutions and businesses in Tokyo.

Improving convenience for the residents of Tokyo

Providing advanced financial services will help meet the financial needs of the residents and businesses in Tokyo, enabling them to lead more convenient and sustainable lives.
